where the blizzard comes through

It's hard to believe one week ago I was trampling poetry, I was barreling through a week that would change me, and now, I have fallen back into routine and, of course, blizzard warnings. It is cold here in town, the wind sharp and pressing through my corduroys.

We were released early today because of the inclement weather, which has slowed to a few feathery flakes already. Tomorrow, a two hour late start. These things rarely happened at Old High School, with the sturdy snow plows and compact population; here, it's all about farmland and bluffs, about parceling out land and distant neighbors.

I don't mind the extra work time, especially with this cold weighing heavy, my memento from Florida (Sarah, perhaps I caught it from you?). I come back to a bit of a cheating scheme, come back to grades due twenty four hours later, come back to leaping one hundred pound puppies, to sharing my bed with said dogs... I come back to reading just before bed, and no other time, not really, and I come back to the routine of everyday.

If you didn't get a chance, please do glance at my posts from the Palm Beach Poetry Festival: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6. I could say it again and again: I had a glorious time, I had a wonderful, comfortable, addictably cozy time, so much so that I immediately applied for three more poetry events in the near future, and I enjoyed snapping photographs of the landscape of Florida, the landscape of the Palm Beach Poetry Festival.

Also: Major Jackson, one of the featured poets / instructors at the festival, may be using some of my photographs on the Poetry Foundation's weblog, which is a great honor. Keep an eye out for it in the coming weeks. Another photograph of mine (of swan boats in Boston) is in the final stages of being considered for an online interactive map. These small successes I've recently had in poetry and photography are comforting; I try not to make too much out of them, but each time, I secretly do a little happy dance. I just can't help it.

Blogs to explore: poetry foundation and lemon hound.

New flickr group that seems pretty interesting: contact love project.

You do have an eye for photography--congrats on having them noticed! There are journals, btw, that take art submissions and the like (I can't, off the top of my head, name one, though)--it would be very cool to see a portfolio of yours one day.
